Beginning Fall 2027, UL Lafayette’s College of Sciences and School of Computing and Informatics will offer new concentrations for computer science majors and new minors for students majoring in other fields.

Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning Concentration

Computer science students will learn to develop intelligent software and turn data into useful insights. Building on programming, algorithms, and mathematics, the concentration combines AI and machine learning electives with cybersecurity and distributed computing to prepare students for careers in software development, AI applications, and data analysis.

Space Computing Systems Concentration

Combining computer science with physics, mathematics, and the new CMPS 471 Space Computing Systems course, the concentration emphasizes secure software, reliable onboard computing, and resilient communications. Graduates are prepared for opportunities in aerospace software, embedded systems, and mission simulation.

Space Computing Systems Minor

Available to students majoring in fields other than computer science, this six-course, 18-credit minor introduces computing for space applications. Programming and computer systems coursework culminates in CMPS 471, where students explore reliability and cybersecurity through a hands-on project. The minor complements their major with skills relevant to satellite systems, aerospace software, and technical simulation.

Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning Minor

Available to students majoring in fields other than computer science, this minor teaches how AI systems are developed, evaluated, and used responsibly. Coursework in programming, computing fundamentals, and AI and machine learning helps students analyze data, improve processes, and pursue new research questions in their chosen fields.
