Points of Pride

  • The Center for Visual and Decision Informatics (CVDI) at the University of Louisiana at Lafayette is the only such NSF Center in the nation that focuses on data science, big data analytics, and visual analytics. The CVDI is poised to become the largest center of its kind in the U.S. after receiving approval for a second round of National Science Foundation funding in March 2017.   • Based on research and development expenditure, Computer Science at the University of Louisiana at Lafayette was ranked 44 in 2014 and 53 in 2015 by National Science Foundation (NSF).
  • The Center for Advanced Computer Studies (CACS) was established in 1984. Over the years, CACS has hosted a distinguished faculty, including IEEE Fellows, ACM Fellows, AAAS Fellows, and NSF CAREER Award recipients.​ CACS has been featured as one of the top 50 computer science graduate programs in the country for the 2013 - 2014 academic year.
  • Our Ph.D. program in Computer Science was established in 1968, the first such program in Louisiana.
  • In 1962, the nation's first Masters of Science program in Computer Science was initiated at UL Lafayette.
  • Our Undergraduate Computer Science Program is fully accredited by the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET). 
  • Our Undergraduate Informatics Program is the first such program in Louisiana, and is among an increasing number of such programs across the United States. The Master of Science in Informatics is also the first offered in the state.
  • The Alpha Student Chapter of the Association of Computing Machinery was established at UL Lafayette (then University of Southwestern Louisiana) in 1961.
