Congratulations to Dr. Xiali (Sharon) Hei for receiving a grant from the Meta (Facebook) Research in the amount of $149,180 for the duration of one year starting October 1, 2021. The title of the project is "Privacy-Preserving Federated Learning for Minimized fNIRS Data" and it aims to preserve the privacy of the users while using a VR headset. A VR headset collects lot of user data while in use. This data is used by machine learning algorithms to recognize the user’s actions and provide them a good user experience. This project will design mechanisms to ensure data privacy and, thus, VR users will not have to worry about their privacy while learning or playing on the VR headset.
